“ There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.”
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan (2005)
UK Country Director The Hunger Project
Sophie Noonan joined The Hunger Project UK as Country Director in 2014 and has been working towards ending hunger for the last 20 years.
“Empowering women and girls is key to our global efforts to end hunger. In over 24,000 villages and communities where we are working, we’re witnessing the fantastic accomplishments and transformations that women are initiating. When women are empowered and supported, everyone rises: Communities become more resilient, families are healthier, more children go to school, incomes increase, and agricultural productivity improves.”
Sophie Noonan has worked in the charity sector in France, Belgium and the UK, collaborating with Médecins Sans Frontières, Care International, UN Independent Commission for Population and Quality of Life and Action Against Hunger UK (ACF-UK)
Every year, tens of thousands of women are participating in The Hunger Project’s training programme in some of the poorest villages of the world getting empowered to build a better future or themselves and their children.
We know that women are the key to creating change for the future of girls and gender equality in regions affected by chronic hunger and poverty.
And when empowered, they can achieve extraordinary results in catalysing a new and brighter future for their children, family & community.
We have created the Unleashed Women Leadership Fund so that women from all over the world can unite together to end extreme hunger and poverty by 2030. Our purpose is to bring women together to lift each other up and unite as a powerful collective. To unleash their potential to make a difference in the world and learn from one another.
What can we learn from women who bring water in their villages, stop child marriage?
How can we take a stand in sisterhood and unite to end hunger by 2030?
